Staying organized in sales while delivering consulting engagements at the same time can be a challenge. Today I'm sharing exactly how I do it, so stick around. So my strategy is simple. I focus on four things that only I can do my business right now. First, content creation. I'm the one coming up with ideas and creating content. Second, prospecting. I reach out to prospects and build relationships myself. Third, conversion. Getting on the discovery calls and turning prospects into paying clients. And 4th, client delivery. I ain't sure my clients get top notch. Of us, everything outside of these four areas are either outsource or image or eliminate. Now here's the biggest secret. I dedicate one full day a week just to welcome my business. Fridays are reserved for planning, strategizing, and making sure everything's on track. No client meetings, just me and my team working on growing my business. So that's how I stay organized in sales. For more tips and consulting growth, follow me or subscribe.

Great 4 areas to target. We need to dedicate the time to make people aware of who we are, be genuine about who we are and building relationships and then knowing the right time to discover if your connections are a good client.

Love this Faheem Moosa. Sometimes, despite being meticulous in planning, I get disorganized. But there's always a better way to be good at it.

The key is to do more of the right things. The hard part—at least for me—is figuring out what to focus on.

It was in the BAG, except it wasn't. I couldn't believe the reason my proposal was rejected. Here's what happened 👇 In the early 2010's I was introduced to this family business (manufacturing) run by an entrepreneur and his two kids. They wanted a strategic plan and since I had a manufacturing background, we really hit it off. I sent my proposal for $25,000 and they didn't bat an eyelid. Everything checked out: ✅ Trust between seller and buyer✅ My team's experience (especially since I was leading the project)✅ Our understanding of what they needed✅ Our solution✅ Our fee ✅ Our timelineBut then when I reached out with a contract, they said No. I couldn't understand it. Was it cold feet?Had they found someone else? Had something changed in their business? But it was none of the above. The real reason was that one of the kids was getting married and was planning on having a destination wedding at Jasper, Alberta (pictured below). So they had to choose between investing in our proposal or spending the money on the wedding. 🤦♂️ I was really disappointed we lost the gig but here's what I learned: When you sell to small businesses, you don't simply compete with like-to-like competition. You don't even compete with business priorities. ⭐ You compete with business AND life priorities. A wedding. Sending a kid to university. A family medical emergency. Looking back, I think one of the mistakes I made was not probing WHY making an investment was a priority for this client right NOW. Maybe if I had been a more mature salesperson with better discovery skills, I could've turned that situation around. But it wasn't to be. Multiple follow ups didn't bear fruit and the moment was over. So I moved on.So, if you're selling to SMBs, keep in mind that it's seldom going to be a linear sale. Just because it's a small business, it doesn't mean selling to them is always straightforward.Keep sharpening those discovery conversation skills! Have a great weekend ☀ 😎

Last weekend, I had a fascinating exchange with ChatGPT-01 Mini, the latest version of ChatGPT, and it really got me thinking about the future of consulting.I wanted to update my business messaging so I turned to ChatGPT for inspiration. I created a prompt using the RACE framework and asked for an opinion. What started as a simple back-and-forth quickly turned into a 45-minute deep dive. I shared my concerns, detailed my audience’s pain points, and explained the limitations of my current messaging. I kept asking for feedback, samples, and opinions, challenging the AI to understand exactly what I needed. What I got back was very impressive. I don’t think I could’ve got a similar final output on my own. But then I wondered: if I can refine my messaging through an exchange with AI, what’s stopping my clients from doing the same? Helping clients with their messaging is a big part of what I do, so why would they need me? But then I also realized that the specific output I got was a result of how I infused my unique experiences and stories into the conversation. My exchange with ChatGPT wasn’t just about structured prompts; it was about leveraging the mental models, knowledge, and nuanced understanding I’ve built up from working with hundreds of clients.AI is fantastic at brainstorming and generating ideas and incredible speed, but it can’t tap into your personal and professional experiences - or the stories that shape your expertise. Unless Elon’s Neuralink finds a way to extract and upload the info in our brains into the public domain, or someone invents Dumbledore’s Pensieve, we're safe for now😂 😂 But seriously, I see many consultants and advisors on LinkedIn feeling overwhelmed or frustrated with the limitations of AI. I even sense a bit of resentment. My take? Keep an open mind and keep experimenting. Gen AI is only going to get better, and when you use it to supplement your human experience, you’ll be doing your clients a huge favour. Your output will be far better than what you could achieve on your own.✍ Consultants and advisors, how are you using AI in your practice? Let's share and learn together 👇

How my consulting firmwent from generalistto specialist (and why you should consider it, too). 👇 How do you decidewhich type of doctor togo to?If you’re like most people, for commonmedical conditions you’ll see a general practitioner (GP).But if it’s serious and you need surgery, you may see a general surgeon or if it’s more serious, you’ll see a specialistsurgeon. In a vast majority of cases, a GP earnsless than a general surgeon whoearns less than a specialist surgeon. 🏥 Why?Because the more serious a problem is,the more valuable its solution isperceived to be.I experienced this first hand in my ownconsulting business. A few years intostarting my business, I served everybody. Any business, large or small from anyindustry who wanted a business plan or strategic plan. The fee was lower than premium but the profits were still acceptable. That's why I felt no pressure to change. But the more I learned abouthow to build a professional servicesbusiness…...the more I realized that becominga specialist was the way to go.So I doubled down and focused on solving a serious problem for the academia market. We helped universities plan and launch new businesses. The more my firm served this segment, the better we understood itsspecific and nuanced problems.Fees increased, profits increased, we gotbetter referrals and sales cycles decreased. We used the profits to hire more qualifiedand experienced consultants and also invested in building a sales pipeline. The key move that enabled all of this was this:⭐ We created a transformative consulting offering.👉 I talked about this in detail at a Consulting Growth Hour event a while ago,"How to structure and win $100kconsulting deals."Happy to share the video if you're interested. Let me know in thecomments and I'll send it to you. 👇 👇

For consultants or anyone who works from home and prefers to WORK OUT from home, check out HASFIT on YouTube. I stumbled upon their channel during the pandemic and have been hooked since then. They have a range of workout videos, from cardio to strength training. I usually follow their 30-min strength training routines but sometimes when I'm pressed for time, choose a quick 10-min routine. Hasfit is owned by Joshua Kozak (aka Coach Kozak) and Claudia Cárdenas Kozak, CFE, both of whom lead every workout video. The best part is that Claudia shows us easier modifications of each exercise so if you find Coach Kozak's version too hard, you can simply follow Claudia's. When you find yourself cooped up at home and can't step out for whatever reason, make sure you work out at home. You'll feel great and work better. Here's HASFIT's Youtube channel: https://lnkd.in/gybuhDMW✍ P.S. - What's your workout routine?Happy weekend ☀️
